Help offered to 1,000-plus firms with most quality issues

The taxman is offering to help employers improve their PAYE information.

Targeted support, which will include face-to-face visits, is to be rolled out to at least 1,000 firms identified by the Revenue as having the most problems with data quality.

Analysis shows that the main causes of data-matching errors with HMRC records are:

  • incorrect or missing National Insurance number;
  • incorrect or missing date of birth;
  • incomplete, misspelt or even made-up name.

The launch of the scheme follows a successful pilot held between July and October with 12 employer schemes.
