Customs' concession, set out on 21 July 1978, Official Report, columns 426-27, which applies to rulings provided by Customs in writing that have subsequently misled taxpayers, also applies to rulings given over the telephone, by letter, fax and e-mail.

Film relief
The estimated cost of relief given under section 48, Finance (No 2) Act 1997 is £440 million for the period 1997-98 to 2001-02, John Healey said in reply to a recent written question.

Landfill
The estimated total tax liability of landfill operators in 2002-03 is £675 million, John Healey said. However, they can 'divert up to a maximum of 20 per cent of this amount to the landfill tax credit scheme' and, if this were to occur, approximately £135 million of potential landfill tax would be foregone.
