VAT invoices

HMRC's Revenue & Customs Brief 51/07 deals with 'Changes to the VAT Invoicing Regulations with effect from 1 October 2007', which result from infraction proceedings begun by the European Commission. HMRC believe that the effects on most UK businesses will be minor and suggest that those most likely to be affected are those that:

  • use the margin scheme for second-hand goods, antiques, works of art, and collectors' items;
  • are involved in making travel related supplies that fall within the scope of the tour operators' margin scheme;
  • are involved in intra EU supplies of goods and services; and
  • make supplies where the customer accounts for the VAT.

Details of the changes are in the brief which is on the Internet at www.hmrc.gov.uk/briefs/vat/brief5107.htm.
