I notice that HMRC have announced that they are deferring the new PAYE Service from October 2008. When will HMRC do something on time these days? No doubt this delay will, as always, cost us yet more money.
We are currently going through the change in agent telephone numbers to 0845 ones which is (now was?) due to be completed in October. (I have heard of a taxpayer who found his tax office agent's telephone number from the HMRC website and used it to call the office.)
This and the new PAYE Service was intended to allow us and taxpayers to telephone a single tax office (a GCO or 'general claims office' in HMRC speak), which would have access to all the taxpayer's PAYE records, dispensing with the need, as now, of having to contact several offices.
In other words: 'seamless access'.
