It’s manifesto pledge time again and I hear that Labour are promising not to raise income tax.
Hold on, I hear you ask, didn’t they promise not to raise income tax sometime before?
Good point; well spotted, that was in their 2005 manifesto.
But just a second, are we saying that this 50% tax band isn’t a rise in income tax?
Right again, or should that be wrong again? Anyway, yes (or no) it is a rise in income tax. I’m no mathematician, but 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Yep, 5 definitely is a bigger number than 4; well you certainly need more fingers to get there anyway.
I also note that what with Labour’s poster depicting David Cameron as detective Gene Hunt from the Ashes to Ashes TV series, comments are being made that the campaign is is taking on a Back to the Future quality.
I was also just wondering what a future Labour government might do if they need to raise more tax to deal with Government debt, etc.
Bit dodgy to renege on your promise not to increase income tax twice.
Already increased National Insurance and look what a stink that’s causing.
Back to the Future, hmmm; now there’s an idea…
Let's get in that DeLorean and go back, way back ... I wonder if anyone remembers that little thing called investment income surcharge?
