No fiscal news from The Sun's Page 3 correspondent today, but the paper does devote page 4 to the fact that Gary Glitter is to receive £100,000 in royalties from Hewlett Packard for the use of his song 'Do you want to touch me', which it is using to promote a new computer in the US. Apparently Gary already receives about £200,000 per year in royalties in respect of his song catalogue. Is this little windfall all bad news? Probably not to our friends in HMRC, who are presumably in line for up to 40% of this if he receives it personally. I'll bet they're glad that he's no longer banged up in some jail in Vietnam. I guess they wouldn't really have had much argument about him being not resident in the UK if that had still been the case. Gary may not be Mr Popular right now, but I expect that HMRC at least are probably quite happy that he's now back in good old Blighty where they can get their slice.
