Many thanks to Rebecca Cave for reminding me that the Finance Bill 2008 has now hit the streets.
I did receive a call from 'Jeremy' at the House of Commons advising me of this yesterday, but what with one thing and another…
In the same way that one can conveniently print out your own airline boarding pass, etc nowadays, the bill and its explanatory notes are also available for download.

However, you might want to think twice before you press the print button, the bill itself – which comes in two volumes – totals 443 pages, which pales into insignificance next to the explanatory notes at a staggering 1,148 pages.
You may now be thinking that it would be cheaper to buy a copy and save yourself the ink and paper costs and the Treasury press release states that the bill and notes cost £26.50 and £39.50 respectively, and they can be obtained from the Stationery Office.
Confusingly, the Stationery Office website states that they cost £22.00 and £85.50 respectively!
I tried to phone the Stationery Office, but they were ‘all busy’, and I was invited to call back later or send an e-mail.

I chose the latter and will let you know what the result is in due course.
Rebecca notes that the 2008 bill has 46 schedules; is this a record?

If you want the lowdown on the Bill in due course at no further cost, you will be able to find it at Taxation.co.uk, by clicking here.
