No, not a reference to Rufus the Dog, well known to Taxation readers, but to Sandi Toksvig, surely the most famous living Dane in the UK. (Are there any others? Leave a comment if you can think of any...)
Anyway, Ms Toksvig, writing in the Daily Telegraph's Seven magazine says that she received a letter on 22 December from HMRC threatening 'distraint of goods to the value of the sums owing' of £752.84 unless she paid up by 27 December.
She tried to ring them. Guess how successful that was?
Yes, quite right.
She says that whenever anyone mentions accounts and tax her mind 'glazes over like a vast Christmas ham'.
So, assuming that she is still not UK-domiciled, I wish her accountant the best of luck as he explains the planned changes to the rules on remittance basis.
