Good to know my staff care enough to be worried (unnecessarily) about the standards of navigation on my cruise, but no, we didn't bump into Sealand. We did, however, anchor just outside the harbour at St Peter Port, Guernsey, which means that on the other side of the ship was the island of Herm. The remaining forty years on the lease of the island is currently up for sale , yours for a mere £15 million. Tax is the standard Guernsey rate of 20%, with no CGT, etc. We could relocate Taxation there; as it happens a former editor (Simon Owen) now lives on the nearby island of Alderney. And just to show me that I couldn't escape from tax, the after dinner speaker last night, on our final evening, was Bob Champion. He spoke about his career and the Bob Champion Cancer Trust, and then told us an anecdote about Lester Piggott. Yes, it was the one about him reaching a settlement with the Revenue after declaring 28 overseas bank accounts, and then writing the cheque for the settlement amount on a 29th. Cue the prosecution that landed him in jail.
