But it’s true: there are some tax advisers(!) – well, one at any rate - who are not aware of the new £30,000 charge payable by non-UK domiciled and/or not ordinarily resident adults if they wish to retain the remittance basis. I have it on the highest authority that this is a fact. When informed (only a matter of days ago at an event), the hitherto unenlightened adviser refused to believe it. This just goes to show that a) some extraordinary advisers carve out a living working in tax without reading Taxation, and b) these same advisers must in fact live in a media-resistant bubble and never read or listen to anything at all. I wonder if they have up-to-date professional indemnity insurance.
