I went to the launch of the Conservatives' new tax simplification ideas last week at the ICAEW, to hear the speech by George Osborne which Daniel found so bland.
I was very pleased to see, shortly before Lord Howe and George Osborne arrived, two piles of Tolley's Yellow Tax Handbooks being put on their table, obviously illustrating the increase in the amount of legislation.
Excitedly I asked the organisers whether there would be a photograph I could use - only for them to take fright and clear the books onto a side table.
George Osborne still referred to them, but if I'd only kept my mouth shut I could have taken the photo myself!
