The CIOT has just issued its list of questions for HMRC's Finance Bill Open Day. One concerns the anti-forestalling provisions for pensions.

It asks, 'Why do the anti-forestalling provisions generally only apply to defined contribution schemes over the transitional period?'

I think we all know the answer to that one.

Because senior civil servants would have had a lot of extra tax to pay if it applied to defined benefit schemes as well.
