I call upon whatever higher power might exist beyond the firmament and plead for salvation from The Daily Telegraph's tireless and tiresome assailing of the taxman.
Two years have passed since HMRC's child benefits CD debacle was first reported and discussed - and the Mailygraph is still banging on about it.
The paper's website (which currently boasts 'Scientists create "sexual tsunami"', 'Japanese fishing trawler sunk by giant jellyfish' and 'Caught on camera: naked love rival flees furious husband' among its five most viewed stories of the month) today reports on the latest announcement from the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
'The number of data losses and security breaches on personal information has increased by more than half in just a year,' the story begins, and then goes on to mention the Revenue and its slip-up in a quarter of its remaining paragraphs.
Interestingly, the ICO press release from which the Torygraph's nine-para news item is clearly cribbed does briefly allude to the missing disks, but not once does it mention HMRC by name.
