Being the leader in its field, Taxation hardly needs publicity. Nevertheless, it's nice of Accountancy Age to give us a mention in its latest issue. A piece on the magazine's back page, called Taking Stock, takes umbrage with this blog, which 'seems to be obsessed with the page 3 (sic) girls in The Sun'. Fromwheredidthatideacome, onewonders. Accountancy Age goes on to accuse us of 'a shameless pitch for high Google rankings'. Well, duh! (Although search optimisation is a bit more sophisticated than a few misleadingly racy headlines.) So appalled is our fellow media title at the Taxationblog's 'daily dose of smut' that it provides the web address, so that Taking Stock readers can share in the righteous disgust provoked by such words as 'knickers' and - gasp! - 'topless'. Phew! Many of those who are new here will by now be suffering from a chronic dose of the vapours. Some ladies may even have swooned. So, as a calmative, and in the interests of journalistic balance, here are comments on the page 3 stories from some of today's other, less salacious, national papers:
Champion of decency and family values the Daily Mail slobbers over 18-year-old actress Emma Watson (Hermione in the Harry Potter films). Tax isn't mentioned.
The Daily Mirror's third page is filled by a photo of a different 18-year-old. She's some soap actress or other. And she's in her undies. The subject of tax is noticeable by its absence.
It's Paul McCartney for the Daily Express. Tax doesn't get a look in, but one assumes that Sir Macca pays his fair share, what with being quite wealthy.
'Big banks delay decisions until the fog clears,' bellows the Financial Times. There are no pics of pop stars or young totty, so I didn't bother to read the story.
God save Queen Victoria!
