In light of customer feedback HMRC have found that self assessment is the most important authorisation for agents as it enables them to exchange and disclose self assessment information with HMRC to allow taxpayers to meet filing deadlines and to discuss statements of account.

HMRC’s Central Agent Authorisation Team (CAAT) now aims to process authorisation applications for self assessment within 24 hours of receipt (weekends excepted).

Thus advisers should be able to discuss a client’s self assessment records with HMRC within 24 hours of the client’s records being updated. Within 72 hours and after the record being updated it will be possible to view the client's details online.

HMRC also aim to process other authorisations within seven working days of receipt.
