Terms for authors

Publisher: RELX (UK) LIMITED trading as LexisNexis of Lexis House, 30 Farringdon Street, London EC4A 4HH ( "the Publisher" )

1. The Author hereby grants to the Publisher the exclusive publication right in The Article to publish and authorise the publication of The Article and all parts, adaptations and abridgements thereof in all forms and media throughout the world.

2. The Author hereby waives all moral rights to which he/she is entitled pursuant to The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 in respect of The Article and any other moral rights provided for under any laws in any part of the world.

3. The Author agrees that the Publisher may add to, omit from or vary the contents of The Article. Final editorial control will always rest with the Publisher.

4. The Author warrants to the Publishers that: (a) the Article does not infringe any existing copyright or licence; (b) except where the Author, on submission of the manuscript, notifies the Publishers in writing otherwise, The Article is original and no part has previously been published in any form; (c) he/she has the full power to grant this licence and that this licence does not infringe the rights or licence of any other person; (d) the Article contains nothing defamatory or otherwise unlawful and no information obtained in contravention of the Official Secrets legislation from time to time in force; and (e) he/she has complied with all applicable laws, codes, regulations, standards and judicial and administrative orders (collectively, "Applicable Laws") relating to its duties and performance under this Agreement, Applicable Laws pertaining to data protection, transparency and privacy and Applicable Laws prohibiting bribery.

5. Except as permitted in this Agreement, and except for public domain materials, the Article will be the original work of the Author, prepared without the use of large language models, machine learning models, generative artificial intelligence, or other similar technologies (“AI Technologies”). Notwithstanding the foregoing, AI services provided by the Publisher (“LN AI Technologies”) to which the Author has access by virtue of a separate subscription for the same, may be utilised to assist in ideation, research, summarisation of public domain materials and other ancillary activities which do not involve actual drafting of the Work, and Author is the sole owner of all the rights Author grants to the Publisher in this Agreement.

6. The Publisher will use personal information collected about the Author for the purposes of (a) billing and other similar activities related to the keeping of financial records relating to this Agreement and (b) keeping a database of useful contacts for the future provision of products, services, offers and upcoming events. Further, in accordance with applicable data protection laws, the Publisher will provide and export personal information about the Author to other members of its company's group, including RELX Inc. in the United States, for the purposes of (a) maintaining the records referred to above, and (b) providing such support, as is reasonably necessary for the activities referred to and governed by this Agreement.

7. This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Each party irrevocably agrees that the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with this Agreement.
