Trust is big issue for new CIOT president

The new president of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) will aim to reinforce trust between taxpayers and HMRC during his year-long tenure he has announced.

Anthony Thomas yesterday succeeded Vincent Oratore as the professional body’s ceremonial head and immediately emphasised the importance of the Revenue enjoying a firm relationship with members of the public and their tax advisers.

‘A fair tax system requires respect on both sides. HMRC are at risk of damaging the trust that has been built up over centuries between taxpayers and tax collectors ’ said Mr Thomas who has been in practice with Thomas & Company a firm of Coventry-based tax advisers for more than 30 years.
