Sign up before March 2013, urges taxman

There is still time for employers to volunteer to join the real time information (RTI) pilot in 2012/13, says the Revenue, which has highlighted benefits of signing up before March 2013. They include

  • no need to complete the current PAYE end of year process or (from the time of joining) in-year movements;
  • greater levels of support from HMRC for the move to RTI; and
  • time to adopt RTI and get things right before the RTI penalties legislation is implemented.

To apply, employers should speak to their software provider to see if it is participating and let it know they would like to join the pilot in November 2012.

The provider will approach HMRC’s RTI team on the employer’s behalf. The team will then contact the employer to decide when it would be most appropriate for it to join RTI.

On a separate matter, HMRC have reminded employers that they have launched three new tools to help make the process easier for taking on new staff.

They deal separately with recruiting staff, making pre-employment checks and contracts of employment, and getting new workers started.
