If you listen to HMRC you could believe that the real-time information (RTI) pilot is running without a hitch.

The official word is that employers have nothing to worry about – it’s a breeze – and the accountancy profession is over-hyping the problems but why are their opinions so diverse?

One of the first employers to trial the system was HMRC itself and the first run went very smoothly – but it would wouldn’t it?

Surely HMRC’s own payroll department would have been ridiculed if...
