I am sure I cannot be the only reader whose business has been affected by January’s “adverse weather conditions” and that there has been a financial cost in addition to the expected inconveniences.

It was necessary for me to pay for overnight accommodation in our local town for some of my staff who were unable to travel home because of the snow.

They did not leave home earlier than normal did not undertake any “qualifying journeys” and nor did they work any later than usual.

However they all expected that bed breakfast and an evening meal would be provided by me their employer.

Furthermore their expectation is that this will be provided to them tax-free.
