HMRC ask that taxpayers help keep department phone lines clear by refraining from calling for employment history request updates before the 40-day deadline.

Toolkits

HMRC have updated the income tax losses and private and personal expenditure toolkits. They include new functionality that allows users to save electronically or print client information.

Defaulters

On 20 May, HMRC published the fifth list of deliberate defaulters.

On 20 May, HMRC published the fifth list of deliberate defaulters.

Charities

Following changes to the charities online service, HMRC have updated the demonstrator to include instructions on how to activate the service and new images of the charities online screens.

Email reminders

HMRC are encouraging agents to sign up to receive an email reminder of when clients’ VAT returns are due. The reminder will be sent about six weeks before the return due date.

Offshore funds

The list has now been updated to include the funds that have entered the reporting fund regime as at 19 May 2014.

Statutory orders

Recently published:

  • The Taxation of Chargeable Gains (Gilt-edged Securities) Order 2014 SI 1120 and explanatory note. This adds the latest issue of gilts to the list of those whose gains on disposal are exempt from tax.
  • The Child Benefit (General) and Child Tax Credit (Amendment) Regulations 2014 SI 2014/1231 and explanatory note.
