Essay contest

The winner of the second annual ICAEW Tax Faculty essay contest, sponsored by Tolley, was Alexandra Moss from Smith & Williamson for A Person’s Home May be their Castle, but Should the Family Home be Taxed and if so How and When? She receives £1,000 cash, a set of Tolley’s Yellow and Orange handbooks and a complete set of Tolley’s tax annuals.

Negligible value

HMRC have updated their list of negligible value agreements, with the addition of Albemarle & Bond Holdings plc shares.

Agencies

Legislation introduced in April requires businesses that supply two or more workers to a client without operating PAYE to report payments made on a quarterly basis. The first quarter, 6 April 2015 to 5 July 2015, must be submitted by 5 August, using the Revenue’s online services.

Taskforce

HMRC have launched a taskforce to tackle tax evaders in Northern Ireland. The department is using Land Registry and Merchant Acquirer data to identify people with assets that are not in keeping with the information they report to the Revenue. The taskforce is expected to recover £18m.

VAT

VAT Information Sheet 03/15: VAT MOSS – Exchange Rates for Period Ending June 2015 provides details of the most used currency exchange rates needed by MOSS businesses registered in the UK, to complete declarations and make payments to HMRC in sterling.

QROPS

HMRC have updated their list of recognised overseas pension schemes.

Child trust fund

Child Trust Fund Bulletins 78, 79, 80 and 81 are available on HMRC’s website.
