Tax advice required for UK and French residents setting up a joint business.
My client and her sister are setting up a business which will involve the import of goods from India for sale in the UK and France. My client lives in the UK and her sister in France. I suppose that these could be two separate businesses but they consider that acting in partnership will give them a greater business “presence”. There may also be economies of scale when importing the goods. They believe that there will be benefits when say they attend trade shows in their respective countries. By acting together they hope to increase sales to overseas visitors by having bases in the UK and Europe.

Can readers provide general advice on the direct and indirect tax implications of such an arrangement? Does this make sense or would it be better to structure this as two separate businesses...
