Charities online

HMRC are in the process of writing to 110,000 charities and community amateur sports clubs to tell them that from 22 April they will be able to make repayment claims electronically through the department’s website. The new service, called charities online, is to be introduced in response to feedback from charities.

PAYE tools

The latest updates to the traditional basic PAYE tools, which will allow employers to submit their employer annual return forms P14 and P35, are now available.

Pensions

The pension savings annual allowance calculator has been amended (www.lexisurl.com/pencalc). It now works out the carry forward amount when the pension input amount is known and a separate calculator has been created to work out the pension input amount when the amount is not known.

Phishing tactics

Taxpayers reported almost 80,000 tax rebate phishing emails last year, HMRC have revealed. The department took action to close down 522 illegal sites in 2012, which showed these emails originated from a number of locations including central and eastern Europe, Japan, Russia and the USA.

Gov.uk

The Revenue has published a briefing note for tax advisers: Gov.UK and HMRC. It explains how the transition from the taxman’s website to www.Gov.UK will work.
