My initial reaction was “How can you get a whole book out of furnished holiday lettings?”

The answer on reading was simple: produce a thorough in-depth book covering almost every tax you can think of and its relation to a furnished holiday let (FHL).

As well as the obvious topics – business structure deductible expenses and inheritance tax rules – there are discussions of practical issues including working tax credits and non-domestic rates.

The book is very well written easy to read and packed with information. The author John Endacott gives plenty of interesting background to the rules and their history which helps readers understand why the rules exist in their form.

The FHL qualifying rules are addressed clearly and in detail with helpful examples. The impact of the FA 2011 changes is explored carefully – and so is the “period...
