HMRC plan to make even greater use of technology

Love it or loathe it digital is the future certainly in HMRC’s eyes. Dealing with taxpayers electronically has long been an intrinsic part of the department’s strategy and it has met with considerable success.

Most businesses have no choice but to submit corporate and VAT returns electronically but for individual taxpayers the choice to file a return on paper still exists. Most choose to file online: 84.5% of all such returns for 2012/13 were submitted this way.
