FATCA

Entities considered to be financial institutions under Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) must register with the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) – to obtain a global intermediaries’ identification number – no later than 22 December to be included on the American tax department's foreign financial institution list on 1 January.

Betting duties

The General Betting, Pool Betting and Remote Gaming Duties (Returns, Payments, Information and Records) Regulations 2014 (SI 2014 No 2912) and explanatory memorandum have been published.

Japan

The protocol and exchange of notes between the UK and Japan – signed in London last winter – will enter into force on 12 December.

Offshore funds

The reporting offshore funds list has been updated to include the funds that have entered the reporting fund regime as at 7 November.

Pensions

HMRC have published guidance for employers and trustees with open contracted-out defined benefit pension schemes on the ending of contracting-out of the additional state pension from 6 April 2016.

Gift aid

HMRC have published the report Gift Aid: Understanding Donor Behaviour to Examine Reasons For, and Barriers to, Gift Aid Use. It also looks at views on possible changes to the model gift aid declaration which HMRC provides for charities to use when collecting donations.
