Troup to step down as HMRC executive chair

Executive chair announces retirement at end of year.

Edward Troup HMRC’s executive chair and first permanent secretary has announced that he will be retiring on 31 December 2017.

He joined HMRC in 2012 after several years in the Treasury. While at HMRC he has served as tax assurance commissioner as well as leading the Revenue’s former business group central tax and strategy. He has also chaired HMRC’s board since April 2016.

Mr Troup said: ‘After nearly 40 years in the world of tax and the past 13 working in the Treasury and HMRC I have decided to retire from my role as chair of HMRC. We have just delivered our best annual performance and I am immensely proud to end my professional career in tax in the department which is at the heart of the UK’s tax system.
