The Netflix series Black Mirror is an uneasy watch: the writer Charlie Brooker imagines small advances in very recognisable technology and pursues them to unintended and often disastrous consequences. At the risk of showing myself to be a grumpy old Luddite some of my recent experiences with technology and the tax system have reminded me that Brooker has a point.
