HMRC’s latest ‘no deal’ Brexit advice

Letters on 'no deal' Brexit advice for businesses only trading with the EU.

HMRC has issued further advice on customs excise and VAT if the UK leaves the EU without a deal on 29 March. Aimed at VAT-registered businesses that trade with the EU only the letters outline three steps they should do in this event:

  • register for a UK economic operator registration and identification (EORI) number which would be needed to continue to import or export goods with the EU after 29 March;
  • decide whether they will use a customs agent to make import or export declarations or will make the declarations themselves using specialist software;
  • contact the organisation that moves their goods to find out whether they will need to supply additional information to complete safety and security declarations or whether they will need to submit these declarations themselves.
