There will be cakes

It is 7.45 am and as I take the very short journey from the kitchen to my laptop in the back bedroom to begin work I realise that it has been more than 15 months since I last took the 7.47am train to Waterloo and how much I am looking forward to making that journey for an in-person meeting next week. What a 15 months it has been.

In the first lockdown there were weekly catch-up emails from local office leaders and separately from senior management sending support and encouragement. There were weekly quizzes and over time these became more elaborate with cheese and wine evenings and escape room challenges.

On returning from holiday there is still an email inbox as long as my arm but sadly there are no emails to delete that advised there are cakes in the kitchen to celebrate a birthday a...
