After the UK left the EU on 31 December 2020 there was a transition period of six months which allowed EU EEA and Swiss citizens who were resident and working in the UK at the end of December to apply for the EU settlement scheme (EUSS) for themselves and their families. The deadline for applications for the EUSS was 30 June 2021 – and from 1 July 2021 EEA citizens are subject to the same immigration status rules as other foreign nationals.
