Electronic returns

41,395 returns have been successfully received over the Internet between 6 April and 30 September this year, according to the Revenue. This figure at the halfway point in the year for tax returns due on 31 January 2002 already exceeds the number sent over the Internet for the whole of last year.

Electronic returns

41,395 returns have been successfully received over the Internet between 6 April and 30 September this year, according to the Revenue. This figure at the halfway point in the year for tax returns due on 31 January 2002 already exceeds the number sent over the Internet for the whole of last year.

This shows that some taxpayers, although still relatively few, are keen to use the Internet for tax return filing, and that the Revenue's faith in Internet filing is well-founded. It should also be pointed out that by this time last year, the Revenue's Internet filing system had only been working for a couple of months, and it was also a brand new concept to file on-line. Who knows — in five years' time it may be the norm to send in your tax return by Internet.

Underwriters Unit renamed

With effect from the end of September 2001, Leeds (Underwriters Unit) is to be known as 'West Yorks Personal Tax Unit'.

The change of name is partly to reflect an internal reorganisation which will result in the office taking on additional work with a corresponding increase in staffing levels. The same staff will, however, continue to be responsible for dealing with the tax affairs of Lloyd's members, including underwriting companies.
