NIC hike?
The Chancellor was asked in an oral question if he stood by his commitment not to increase National Insurance contributions during the lifetime of the current Parliament. Paul Boateng replied that the commitment was 'not to raise the basic rate or top rate of income tax' and that 'no such commitment was given about National Insurance contributions'.
