Voluntary payments


With regard to voluntary National Insurance contributions, Dawn Primarolo said that the Inland Revenue began sending deficiency notices to individuals on 27 October 2003, since the sending of notices was suspended in 1998. The exercise is due to finish in September 2004, and by 20 June 2004, some six million letters had been issued. Nearly 90,000 people have made voluntary payments, the total paid being £16.5 million.
