'There have been no recent changes to the inheritance tax rules which have any impact on equity release schemes', said Dawn Primarolo in response to a written question on the subject. (Hansard, 28 October 2004, Vol 425, No 146, col 1381W.)
In reply to another question concerning equity release schemes, Ms Primarolo said that the pre-owned assets measures would have 'no impact on the full range of bona fide equity release schemes with arm's length providers', although the Government would 'continue to bear down on schemes aimed merely at avoidance'.
