Extend, don't reduce

We work extremely hard to make sure the 31 January deadline is met. The proposed change is unworkable. What we need is more time, not less. Now that the debate has started, we should campaign for an extension of the filing deadline to 31 March. That way, we would not have to work under such pressure and could enjoy a few days off over Christmas with our families.

Alignment time

It seems to me that the time has come to align the tax year with the calendar year.
HMRC want to bring forward tax filing dates to improve the Chancellor's cash flow. With this in mind why not propose to Gordon Brown that the tax year 2007 should run from 6 April 2007 and end on 31 December 2007 and that the tax year 2008 should be...
