LIKE 'DANIEL IN the lion's den' was Lord Carter of Coles' description of his feelings as he stood up to address a conference on e-filing organised by the ICAEW IT Faculty last Friday. Actually since a large percentage of the delegates seemed to be from software firms who have benefited a great deal from the move to online filing it was probably more a case of Solomon receiving the Queen of Sheba.

However our 4 500 'No to November' supporters are clear enough evidence of the strength of feeling in the profession against the proposal to change the self-assessment filing deadline so it was a great relief to hear Lord Carter say that he was ready to look again at his recommendations:
