HMRC are writing to some of the companies that were formed between October 2004 and August 2005. Companies that have an authorised agent or have delivered their first company tax return will not get the letter. HMRC are writing to some of the companies that were formed between October 2004 and August 2005. Companies that have an authorised agent or have delivered their first company tax return will not get the letter. The purpose of the letter is to help these companies get their tax obligations right first time and on time. Along with the letter, HMRC are sending a copy of the notes for new companies and an agent authority form.
A spokesman for HMRC says that the aim has been to include all recently registered companies without an agent that have not had the notes, have not yet delivered a company tax return and have not yet had all the reminders just before payment and returns are due.
From August 2005 HMRC have sent out a set of notes to all newly registered companies to help them get clear what their obligations to HMRC are, mainly in connection with corporation tax but also in connection with employer and VAT duties. HMRC say that they did not think sending the material to older companies would be helpful to them as it would come too late in their cycle.
