Ralph retires

Ralph Ray has announced his retirement from Wilsons in October 2007 after an outstanding career as a tax lawyer spanning 50 years. He has been a consultant with Wilsons, advising private clients on taxation matters, for 11 years and was, until recently a member of Taxation's editorial board. Ralph is a vice president of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and was one of the original members of the organisation when it was founded eleven years ago. He has lectured widely on tax matters, particularly on inheritance tax and its predecessors, and has written several books. He has contributed many articles on tax to legal and accountancy journals and was a member of the council of the Chartered Institute of Taxation for 15 years.
Ralph plans to spend his retirement travelling, riding his motorbike, painting and whittling walking sticks.
Ralph commented on his retirement, 'I have had an enormously fulfilling career which has been the mainstay of my life. I have certainly witnessed many changes, some of which I have welcomed more than others. To put things in perspective, I remember clearly my first job at Theodore Goddard, when I earned £650 a year, and also buying my first house in Enfield for £4,150. That was a big deal for me — how times have changed!'
Taxation thanks Ralph for his valuable contribution to the magazine over the years and wishes him all the best for a happy retirement.
