VAT Blue Book; Tax Advisers' Livery Company; Website editor vacancy on Taxation magazine

VAT Blue Book

The latest issue of the BBA VAT Blue Book has been published. Produced by a team of VAT experts from the financial services sector, HMRC have also contributed comments and agreed the contents. The guide is aimed at businesses within the financial and insurance sectors and their advisers, and companies that manage their financial affairs, for example through a treasury function.
The book provides information on the VAT treatment of a range of financial and insurance transactions, from retail banking to treasury functions. It also includes a new chapter dealing with the VAT issues affecting the fund management industry.
A new feature of the online version is the 'click-thru' legal references taking readers straight to relevant UK and European case law, reproduced courtesy of LexisNexis Butterworths.
For further information call 020 7216 8900 or visit www.bba.org.uk.

Tax Advisers' Livery Company

The Company competed for the first time in the inter-Livery golf competition for the Prince Arthur Cup on 17 May. The team consisted of Nicholas Woolf, the renter warden, Peter Murcott, Adam Broke and Goran Kjellen (from Sweden). The Insurers' came first, with the Tax Advisers rather too near the other end of the scale for comfort. The Company's own golf day is on 10 October at Effingham Golf Club.
Then from 18 to 20 May, over 50 liverymen and guests enjoyed the Master's Weekend in York. This included a cruise on the Ouse, visits to the City art gallery and Treasurer's House, evensong at the Minster and dinner at the Merchant Taylors' Hall.
Finally on 30 May, the Rt Hon the Lord Mayor, Alderman John Stuttard, accompanied by Mr Alderman and Sheriff David Lewis and their ladies were the principal guests at the Company's Civic Luncheon in the splendid surroundings of Saddlers' Hall in the City of London.
Membership of the Company is open to all tax advisers; details are available on www.taxadvisers.org.uk.
