The attorney general has extended the contract of the director of the Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office

The HMRC's leading prosecutor is to continue in his role for another two years.

The attorney general has reappointed David Green QC as director of the Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office (RCPO) until 6 December 2009, meaning he will have served five years in total following the completion of his extended contract.

The attorney general, Baroness Scotland, QC said: 'I am very grateful for David Green's work in establishing and leading the Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office as a fully functioning independent prosecutions office within the criminal justice system.

'This was a major undertaking and much has been achieved over the past three years.'

RCPO was launched in April 2005, and is now well established as an independent and specialist prosecutor.
