Three firms shortlisted for the Taxation Awards give a flavour of working life in their tax departments

What is it like working in a tax department that has been shortlisted for the Taxation Awards best in-house tax team?

This year the three nominees are the British Land Company plc's tax department Logica plc's tax department and Rio Tinto plc's global tax team.

Each of these three teams explains to Taxation 2 about working in their busy tax deparments.

British Land

British Land is a FTSE100 company and the fourth largest real estate investment trust in the world with assets under management of some £17 billion. Lucinda Bell head of tax and accounting at British Land says that 'in operational terms we are small company employing some 80 executives a third of which are on the finance side.

'The tax team's work is varied and challenging. The focus is transaction based and so we work alongside the property and finance executives continuously.
