Users must now provide date of birth

Changes have been made to the VAT Online registration form. HMRC say these changes will help to reduce the number of errors made when completing the form, and so could help reduce processing times for VAT registration applications.

Every screen now has a sub-heading advising that certain questions must be answered. Each question that must be answered is marked with an asterisk.

The content of help pages and error messages has been reviewed and improvements to content made. Where it has been possible, design changes have been made to improve accessibility to the service for visually impaired users.

Various changes have been made to a number of screens. For details, see HMRC's website.

However, Taxation is curious to know why HMRC need to know the applicant's date of birth. This new field has been added to the 'Applicant's personal details' screen, along with home telephone number.

HMRC say that applicants 'must provide your date of birth'.
