End-date approaching
Paper self-assessment tax returns must be filed by 31 October this year. HMRC have reminded taxpayers that paper returns submitted after 31 October could incur a £100 penalty. The deadline for filing online returns remains 31 January.
Any tax due has to be paid by 31 January, whether the return is filed on paper or online.
HMRC report that up to 10 August 2008, 1,964,747 self assessment returns had been filed, of which approximately 44% were filed online.
