MIKE TRUMAN looks at some calculations by CHARLES PASCOE, which suggest that the extension to three years for loss relief claims may not be as useful as it looks

Normally in Taxation we write a lot of words about tax and illustrate the words with some numbers.

This article is the other way round: it is mainly numbers illustrated with a few words.

Charles Pascoe Tax Principal in the London Tax Group of BDO sent me some examples that he had discussed with a policy adviser at HMRC following the Budget 2009 announcement in BN13 that the three-year carry back for losses incurred in 2008-09 announced in PBR 2008 was to be extended to cover 2009-10 as well.
