'The scope for a form to go missing is high'

In recent months I have found it necessary to chase HMRC in some cases for confirmation that clients have been sent their income tax refunds following submission of a form R40. This is very frustrating and time consuming.

I have now received an explanation from HMRC as follows:

‘Following a directive we no longer issue tax calculations to agents. No doubt you will be able to obtain a copy from your client.’

With the upheaval in tax districts, one does not even know which district will be processing a claim and the scope for a form to go missing is high; not infrequently I am asked to provide a copy of the form originally submitted.

I wonder if the consequences of this directive have been causing problems for other practitioners?
