Self assessment tax returns for 2009/10 must be filed online by midnight on 31January.
HMRC report that 845 people filed their tax returns on Christmas Day, with 2,408 taxpayers submitting them on Boxing Day.
A further 16,230 people filed their returns on New Year’s Eve, 96 of them between 11pm and midnight; 5,130 filed on New Year’s Day.
HMRC have compiled guidance for tax agents to help them manage the 31 January self assessment deadline.
