'Proposals are clearly a further burden on firms'

I write to express concern regarding the planned business records checks by HMRC.

Both the ICAEW and the CIOT have responded to the proposals on the basis that they are fundamentally flawed and poorly thought out.

As they stand the proposals are clearly a further burden and great potential worry to small business at a time when the government is committed to reducing red tape so as to encourage this sector to prosper and thrive.

There is also the cost to the public purse of producing these flawed proposals and the cost to the tax bodies and therefore their members in responding to them.

On the other hand these proposals might have been welcomed if there were genuine and credible evidence that the visits would be more educational and supportive and would significantly improve the accuracy of record keeping without imposing a more burdensome...
