In case the title is not long enough the front cover continues ‘Simon Hurst shows you how to produce advanced robust compelling and time-saving spreadsheet applications for everyday accounting tasks such as budgeting performance management reporting and dashboards.’

Then page 1 opens with ‘Each chapter will contribute ideas and techniques that help us build our chapter 15 finale an interactive flexible sales performance “dashboard”.’

Confused? I was. To be honest if I’d picked up this book in a shop I’d have probably put it back down.

That would have been a shame because I went on to learn a great deal: from the early chapters numerous gaps were filled in my self-taught Excel skills and the later chapters inspired me to stretch myself further in the future.

Essentially the book is about creating spreadsheets...
